Sexuality can be an extremely intimate and vulnerable part of the human experience. AASECT (American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors & Therapists) Certified Sex Therapists are licensed mental health professionals who are specially trained to assess, diagnose, and provide in-depth psychotherapy far beyond the requirements of most psychology programs.

Certified Sex Therapists work with sexual concerns, including, but not limited to, sexual function and dysfunction, sexual pleasure, sexuality and disability, sexual development across the lifespan, sexual abuse/assault, sexuality across cultures, identity, expression, lifestyle, and gender.

Certified Sex Therapists specialize in providing comprehensive and intensive psychotherapy in complex cases. Certified Sex Therapists are required to identify their own biases prior to becoming certified as well as complete sensitivity training. They receive an additional 18 months of supervision to ensure that they are ethically sound and capable of using and applying what they have learned clinically.

Because the title Certified Sex Therapist is not a protected or monitored title in most states, including Pennsylvania, there are many providers who use the title without having completed this intensive training and/or certification. Given the sensitive nature of sexuality, it is important to entrust your sexual concerns to an AASECT certified practitioner. For individuals who wish to attend sex and relationship coaching it is important to verify that the coaching certification is through a legitimate program.

Our clinicians that are eligible for AASECT membership and/or AASECT certification are required to do so. Our clinicians have extensive training and expertise in the intersection of mental health and sexuality. Our therapists and coaches receive supervision, training, and mentoring in relationship dynamics and sexuality.
